How to read: just in case you can't figure it out. EP = early position. MP = mid-position. LP = late position. CO = cutoff. BU = button. UTG = under the gun.
So Neil's away to the pub and has won a seat in the $5k added $100+$9 tourney starting at 8pm. So he asked me to play for him.
Last week I won a seat but instead of buying me in Mansion just gave me the money, which I proceeded to lose in a cash game so couldn't play. Neil had 30% of me in that tourney so I was owe him about $35. Anyway, this week he won and I had 30% but we just called it evens.
Neil offered me 10% to play for him, you know because he's a tight cunt. I was fairly sure I wouldn't cash but gave myself something to play for 10% to cash, 20% if I got 2nd-3rd, 25% for 1st, which he agreed to.
I was horrendously bored at work today and couldn't be bothered actually doing any so I'd created some sheets on which to document my tournament playing. You may find the information provided a little more in depth than previously blogged about.
$100 + $9 MTT, with $5000 added. Players -87. Final prize pool $13,700. Positions paid - 9. 1st is $4110 - 9th is $342.50
Blinds 10/20. First hand I get 45h in MP. I get in for a limp. Five players so 100 in the pot. Nothing comes down to help and I fold to a bet.
Comes round to my BB and I have QJs, I've seen worse. There's a raise to 60 in MP but I call anyway. Three players see the flop and there's 250 in the pot. Flop is 997 and I fold to another 60 bet.
Next hand is my SB and I get ATs, again I've seen worse. I get in for a limp with another three players. Flop 247 and I fold for a 60 bet. Down to 1400.
On the CO I get TJ and limp. Four players so 80 in the pot. Flop 9TA, all diamonds. Bet of 60 flung out and I fold. Down to 1380.
Blinds 15/30. Comes round to my BB and I am dealt J2o there's a min raise and I call in a moment of madness. Pot is 195 with 3 players in. Flop comes 58K. Checks round. Turn is a Q. Checks round. River is a 4. A guy puts in a pot bet and I fold.
Next hand and I get 66 on the SB. Folds to me and I bet pot which is to 90. BB calls. Flop 57K, 2 clubs. I put in a continuation bet of 90 and get called. Pot is 360. Turn is a 6, scoop. I bet out 240, if he's chasing a draw he'll pay, but he folds. I back up to exactly evens on 1500.
A5d on the CO but I fold to a 120 raise.
MP I get the pocket rockets, allriiight. I raise to 120 and get reraised by a limper to 430. Could be good. I push and he calls. Flop 5TK. Turn 9. River 5. We both have AA, arse. Get some limp money and am up to 1597.
MP and I limp with A4h only to see the pot raised to 150 and fold. Down to 1567.
MP still and get T9c so limp in again. Five player and 150 pot. Flop 24Q, two hearts. Fold to a 120 bet. Down to 1537.
Blinds 25/50. EP and I get TJd I limp but fold to a raise of 200.
BB 62 and no raise. Four players so 200 pot. Flop 389. A bet of50 is put out so I fold. Down to 1487.
SB T3h and there's a push for 438, so I fold.
MP AT and I fold. Should I be playing this at this stage? Answers on a postcard.
BB Q7o and it's just me vs SB. Flop 2JQ. SB bets out 50, I raise to 200 and he folds. Up to 1562.
Blinds 50/100. SB with 24d. Limp in. Flop 256 but I fold to a bet.
BU I get K9 and fold to no raise.
CO I get QJ and fold to no raise.
MP I get K4h and fold to no raise.
MP I get 87 and fold to no raise. I mention these because each of them, to my mind, had a decision on how to play them this early on. Most were fairly automatic as my stack is only 15x the BB, but had I been ahead some may have been playable and if they are playable with more chips then it may be worth playing them aggresively with fewer.
BB I get 74h, no raise. Three players and a pot of 350. Flop 35J, with one heart. I fold to a 400 bet.
SB Q4c and fold to no raise.
BU I get 56o and fold to no raise.
MP I get 77 and fold to a push of 915. I thought about this for ages but didn't want to cripple myself on a 50/50 at best.
EP 89h and fold to no raise.
Blinds 75/150. UTG with KK, naaaice. I limp because the BB is small stacked and should push to no action as per his previous moves. There's a raise MP to 600 all in and a call.BB folds, I push and the guy who originally called types into the chat box "My hand is really good, I can't let it go" before turning over AJ, eh, okay. Anyway, AT vs AJ vs my KK. No aces, scoop scoop. Up to 4311.
BB next and get As7, no raising. Flop 4TJ, two spades. Checks. Turn 8s. I bet 150 and everyone folds. Up to 4702.
SB with AT and there's an all in for 790, decide I don't have to stand up to it and fold.
CO with AJ and I raise pot to 525. There's an all in for about 2k and I end up deciding to call. He turns over 99, I couldn't have asked for much better especially with the flop coming J high with two spades. Followed by a turn spade. Followed by a river spade. 9s wins :( Arse.
MP and get 22 I limp. Three players and a pot of 480. Flop 579. Checks. Turn 3. Checks. River T checks. A paired 3 from the BB takes it, arse. Down to 1937.
I get moved tables and onto the blinds.
BB and I have J9h, there's a min raise and I call. Three players, 900 pot. Flop 27K, disappointing. I fold to a bet.
SB and I look at K7. Again a min raise but this time I fold. Down to 1562.
Break time and Neil call's me from the pub, I tell about my four-to-a-flush loss and that I'm currently bottom five :( I assure him I'll win none the less and he hopes I do, lol. Average stack is 2.5x more than mine.
Blinds 100/200. BU with A7h and it folds to me. I push and get the blinds. Up to 1862.
LP and I have QJd and limp, one of the blinds raises to 1800 and I fold.
MP QT, which isn't a hand so I fold.
EP I get 66, make a stand with a push :s But no callers, table all quite low stacked compared to blinds (as in all Mansion tourneys really) so only premium hands really stand up to that big a push. Up to 1962.
Get through the blinds without seeing a flop, down to 1662.
BB again before I play and I get TT, I push and everyone folds. Up to 2062.
SB with KJ and I fold to a 600 raise.
MP with 78h and I fold to no raise.
MP with KQ and I push get called by JJ. Flop 247, cry cry. Turn K, yay! River 9, scoop. Up to 4224.
MP TJh I limp and there's a raise to 800, an all in and a call before coming back to me. I fold tout suite.
EP with 33 and I limp. Two players see a flop. Flop 49K, checks. Turn 5. I bet 400 and get called. I now fear the worst so check the river which is a T and am pleasantly surprised to be facing AQ. Up to 4804.
BB with K3 and there's a min raise from the button. I call. Flop 5AQ with two spades. I fold to a 200 bet.
SB and I get those magic bullets again. I raise to 600 when it comes round and get a push from the BB. I call and am up against QTc. Flop 99A with two clubs, but who cares. Turn's a T. River another A!!! QUADS!!! Scoop scoop, up to 6677.
On the button with A3 but fold to no raise.
Blinds 100/200, ante 10. CO wiht KJh, looks nice enough so I raise to 800. Nobody wants to play so up to 7037.
BB K3 and folds to SB who min raises and I fold. Prolly up against a bigger K or an A.
SB 89 and I fold to a 400 raise.
MP with 77 I raise to 1000 and everybody folds in awe of my awesome plays. Up to 7217.
MP KQ and I fold to no raise.
UTG with A7 and I fold to no raise.
BB with J2 and I fold to a 2.5k all in.
SB with Q4 fold to a 400 raise.
Blinds 150/300, ante 15. CO with AK I raise pot to 1155 and get a push for a few hundred more. I call and am up against A8c. Flop 579. Turn K. River which I was certain would be a 6 turns out to be a T. Scoop. Up to 9718.
Fold my blinds to raises, down to 9193.
I get 99 on the BU, I reluctantly fold to an all in.
Fold my blinds to bets again including 44 on the SB to an all in.
Fold my blinds again including 33 on my SB. Down to 8083.
EP with J8c, now normally I wouldn't play this hand, but having folded for three rounds was hoping for some respekt so I raised to 1200 and indeed everyone folds. Good to know.
Blinds 200/400, ante 20. Fold my blinds to more pushes and then get moved table - right back on the blinds, grr.
BB T5 and it costs me nothing. Four players and the pot is 1760. Flop QT4 and a min bet is put out. I call. Now three players and a pot of 2960. Checks all the way down and my T is good. Scoop, up to 10073.
Fold my SB of A4 to a 2k raise.
BU get QJ but fold to no raise.
Fold my blinds again and a MP KT, because it's not a hand.
Blinds 300/600, ante 30. Fold my blinds again and am down to 7973.
EP and I get QQ, finally a hand! I raise to 2400. All fold and I'm up to 8963.
Next hand UTG and get 44 but fold.
Fold my blinds away again and am back down to 7973.
CU get a pair of 5's and since it's folded to me I bet 1800. No players. Back to 8993.
Fold my blinds again down to 7973.
BU I get 44 and limp, guy pushes and I fold.
MP I get AJ and raise to 2400. No callers. Up to 8963.
UTG I fold A7.
Blinds 400/800, ante 40. BB with A7 and it folds to me, the SB raises to 2400 and I push. As I'ev not reraised at this table and have always given up my blinds he folds. Alternatively he could be grossly unobservant and just not have a hand. Up to 11493.
SB with A4c vs the BB and limp. Flop 2TA, I check, he bets 1200 and I raise. He folds, up to 14213.
CO with KTd, folds to me so I raise to 2400. Once caller. Flop 14K, one diamond, checks to me and I bet 2400 again. Player folds and I scoop up to 17973 which puts me in second over all in the tourney.
Fold my blinds.
BB again with T3 and it's free. Flop 335, with two diamonds, so I bet out pot and get no callers. 18293.
SB with K3 and limp vs BB. Flop TQK, I bet out and take it down. 19253.
BB again with Jd4 vs SB. Flop 249, all diamonds. Checks. Turn's a J, he bets 800 and I raise to 2400, he folds. Up to 20893.
600/1200, ante 60. Fold my SB here and my next blinds.
UTG fold QT, no good.
BB, fold.
SB get 77 vs BB. I bet up to 3600 and he calls. Flop 357 and I push, no calls. Up to 21733.
Et voila. Final table. Into the cash, alllright. I'm sitting 2/9 at this stage and am fairly confident I can get about 5th at least.
I jizz myself when the first hand I get is J8d UTG!!! I raise to 4800 but get no callers. I phone Mike and tell him how awesome that was. He agrees. Up to 23833.
BB Jd8 and it folds to me. People recognise how awesome J8 is especially since at least one is a diamond. Am quite worried they have a read on me though, lol. Up to 24913.
Sitting 1/9 now and get Q3 on my SB. I fold.
CO get AK and raise to 4800, no players, so up to 27233.
Fold my blinds even though the SB is J8.
BU I get A9 but fold to a raise. We lose a player and I'm 3/8.
BB 83d and fold to a raise. SB fold too.
BU I fold T9 to no raise. We lose another player and I'm 3/7.
1200/2400, ante 120. Think I missed a level somewhere.
UTG I fold JT.
Fold my blinds and we lose two players, so I'm currently 4/5.
Fold my BB and we're down another player and I'm 3/4.
SB I get 82 which folds to me and I push. No call, thank fuck. Currently on 16513.
BB Get KK, I push, no callers, unfortunately. Only pushed since I did so a couple hands ago and though someone might make a stand. Up to 19033.
SB with 89s and I fold to a push. We lose another player and I'm 3/3. Still, decent monet for top three.
I get K5 BB and push. Up to 20,233.
SB I fold vs BB with 92.
BU with J9, I raise to 7200 but fold to an all in, arse, down to 11593.
BB with K4, I call the SB push. He has Q9. No help I double up. 23316.
Blinds 1600/3200, ante 160. SB with T9 and push, people fold, up to 26826.
BU I fold A2, even though prolly ahead.
BB with T3 and it folds to me.
SB with AQ, button raises to 6400 and I push for my 28k, he folds. Up to 38506. Puts me 2/3.
Fold my next blinds.
Fold my next BB but get AK on the SB. I push. No callers. 38506 vs 82k vs 14k.
Small stack gets a double up next had when his TT holds up vs AT. So 35k, vs 31k vs 65k. Not what I needed.
Fold my blinds which puts me just into 3/3.
BB of QJ vs SB who limps. I raise, SB pushes I think for ages and call. I'm vs A2 and see a Q on the flop. That takes me to 1/3. I have 64292 vs 10k vs 55k.
They get tangled up next hand with A7 vs A8 and I was screaming for a 7 to come to get it HU. Flop 37J. Turn 6. River K. Heads up.
It about evens with me on 64532 vs 65968.
BB I get TJ and go for free. Flop 9 high and I fold to a bet. Down to 61172.
SB 72 and I fold. Down to 59412.
BB QK, I raise to 12,800, guy folds. Up to 62772.
SB with J5 and I raise to 9600 and get min reraised. I call. Flop TQK. I check, he pushes. I think till time's almost out. Against a single pair even I'm only 30% to win. Against a made straight I'm at best a split. A bare ace is even looking good against me. But if I hit...
I call and am up against 88. Looks okay for me about 40% now.
Turn's a J, scoooop. River's no help.
I now have 125544 vs 4956. Mine.
We go all in next hand. Me with 86d and him with 79o. Flop comes 27K. Turn's an 8, scoop. River 2 which is no good and I scoop first which is $4110. Alllriiight.
It's about now I wish I managed to get Neil to agree to my 50/50 deal :(
Finished in 1st place. Net result +$4001.
